Situated at the confluence or "sangam" of the 2 rivers Sonavi and Shastri is the village of Sangameshwar in Ratnagiri district. Sangameshwar is flanked by the Sahyadris on its east and Ganpatipule on its west.

The place of historical importance as Sambhaji Raje, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was captured by Aurangzeb here.

At 250 km from Pune, it is a drive of about 5 hours and 45 minutes. The best season to visit is from November to May. The main attraction here is the famous Marleshwar Temple of Lord Shiva. It is a cave temple located in the Sahyadris. A peculiar feature of this temple is that venomous snakes find their habitat around the temple. But not even one devotee has ever been harmed!

In the vicinity of the temple are Marleshwar Waterfalls  which make for a picturesque view. While in Sangameshwar, you can also visit Sapteshwar temple, the birth place of Fahim Dalvi and the fort of King Dalvi.
