Dapoli is a city in the Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra. Dapoli is a truly unique location in Konkan because although only at a distance of 7 kms from the beach it is at an altitude of 800 Feet and offers a extremely pleasant and cool climate. Its not for nothing that it is known as the “Mini Mahabaleshwar”.
At a distance of approximately 200 kms from Pune it can be reached by a drive of 4 to 5 hours. Daily buses to Dapoli also leave from Swargate.
While staying in Dapoli one can experience Konkan to the fullest. From beaches to sea forts , temples, caves and ofcourse the delicious seafood.- It is closely connected to so many places that it has something to offer for everyone.
Dapoli has one of the longest stretch of beaches (50kms) starting from Dabhol in the South with Karde, Ladghar, Anjarle, Murud Harnai to Kelshi in the North. The more adventurous amongst you can also try a bike ride across beaches for a thrilling experience as most of the beaches are connected and lie adjacent to each other.
Along with water sports, Dolphin rides are popular tourist attraction and both can be availed at the Murud( not to be confused with Murud Janjira) beach which is at a distance of 12 kms from Dapoli.
Located 17 km from Dapoli at Harnai are two forts. Kanakdurga is the land fort and Suvarnadurga is the sea fort. The forts were originally built by the Adil Shahi dynasty and later captured and fortified by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1660.
On the Dapoli-Dabhil Pangari road is a place called Panhalekaji caves. These Budhist caves have inscriptions and remanents of statues from 3 AD.The “Leni” or caves 29 in number at Panhalekaji are a must-see. You can drive up to the caves. The place is situated deep in the valley near the confluence of the ‘Kotjai’ and ‘Dhakti’ rivers.
The Unhavare Hot Water Springs located at 20 kms from Dapoli are said to contain Sulphur residue and are a must visit for those planning a slightly long holiday.
A number of rare temples can be found in and around Dapoli. Apart from the commonly visited Durga Devi temple in Harnai there is the Parashuram temple at Ade, Kadyavarcha Ganpati at Anjarle, Keshavraj and Vyaghreshwar temple in Asud.

Dapoli is a beautiful place to be in. Lot of green cover, water bodies, cool and calm surroundings near to beaches and have all facilities available. A must place to visit and stay for couple of days.
Dapoli is one of my favourite places to visit when I have three four days at hand and a wish to enjoy the Konkan Landscape. The soothing waves and the delicious sea foos are a combination made in heaven. Being a Taluka Headquarters all most all amenities and facilities are available here making one’s stay extremely comfortable.
Dapoli truly represents what Konkan truly is. May it be just two days or a week this holiday destination is appropriate for any sort of trip. There is something for everyone and every age. A truly beautifull destination.
