Besides the Pataleshwar caves, Ferguson college hill, I.T.I. Aundh hill in Pune, hardly any one will be aware of the SHRI GHORWADESHWAR caves those falling 32 K.M. north-west of the Mumbai - Pune Highway.
One can attempt to come here if succeeds to catch the bus no. 124 from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). After the journey of not more than 30 K.M. when one reaches Shankarwadi, the destination comes closer. It is advisable to leave the bus at Shankarwadi near Somatane and prefer to walk to SHRI GHORWADESHWAR. Finally we reach to a group of around 11 caves.
The archeologists predict that the caves find their roots in around 3 rd and 4 the century. Like all the caves even here we can find CHAITYAGRIHA (7.7 meters in length, 6 meters in height and 2.5 meters in height). There are nine rooms for meditation adjoining this GRIHA. An inscription in Brahmi script on one of the walls here, say that the CHAITYAGRIHA is dedicated with affection by Buddha and Sagha-the daughters of Dhapar who was a disciple of Bhadantsingh. The same GRIHA has now taken a shape of SHRI GHORWADESHWAR Temple.
