Situated near Dapoli, the untouched Karde Beach is one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in all of Maharashtra.
Karde is located in the Dapoli division of Ratanagiri district. It is one of the cleanest and virgin beaches in Maharashtra. Secluded and tranquil, Karde beach can be called one of the most romantic beaches. Karde is located at a distance of 196 km from Pune and is a drive of about 4 and half hours.
Karde is the longest beach on the Konkan strip, connecting Harnai and Burundi.
The primary attraction of Karde is the exciting dolphin watching tour. Local tour operators will arrange the ride for you and charge anything between Rs. 150 and Rs. 200 per head and approximately Rs. 1000 for an exclusive ride. Best chance of spotting the dolphins is early in the morning.
You can also enjoy parasailing on the beach. If u have a two wheeler at hand, the drive on the beach during low tide is quite exciting and enjoyable.
Karde beach has a white sand film covering the normal pale coloured sand which creates beautiful shaded patterns on the beach, adding to the beauty of the breaking waves.
The Sheoak Plantations or “suruban” line the entire coastline. This is a perfect place to relax and bask in the afternoon sun. The water not being very deep, is perfect and safe for swimming.
Good and cheap accommodation facilities are available all along the beach. There also a few home-stay facilities available.
One thing you absolutely cannot miss is the exquisite and fresh seafood cooked in the local style. Vegetarians, don’t worry! The local cuisine has a lot of vegetarian options to offer as well!
The best time to visit Karde is during the months of October to March. Summer is from March to May and it gets quite hot and humid then. If you love the rains June to September is the best time to visit.
Apart from the irresistible beach, there are many other places of historical and religious importance, and nearby beaches too.
HARNAI– is about 4 km. from Karde beach. It is also called Maharshi Karve beach, named after Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve. It is a long and flat beach with the suvarnadurg fort looming in the background.
SUVARNADURG AND KANAKDURG FORTS- are 12 km from Karde. Suvarnadurg for t is a sea fort in the Arabian sea. It was the feather in the cap of the Maratha empire and later also became a part of the Peshwa Dynasty. The fort includes another fort, Kanakdurg, which is situated on the Harnai coast. In the past, there was a tunnel connecting the 2 forts. But now the only access to the sea fort is by boat.
LADGHAR – is a beach separated from Karde beach by a rocky stretch. A part of the Arabian Sea there changes into varied shades of red and orange during the evening. Hence the place is also called “Tamas Theertha”. Water sports like parasailing and water-scooter are available there and are quite popular with the tourists. There is a Dutta Mandir atop a hillock nearby which is also worth paying a visit.
KESHAVRAJ TEMPLE– located at 9 km from Karde is the temple of Lord Keshav. The temple, which attracts a large number of pilgrims is believed to be more than 1000 years old.
